Equal Power in Gender

On October 25, 2011, in London CNN news, British Prime Minister David Cameron said it has been declared that the sons and daughters of British royals will have an equal right to the throne under changes to the United Kingdom's succession laws agreed. The legitimate revolutions would mean a first-born girl has precedence over a younger brother.

The leaders of the 16 Commonwealth countries that have the queen as head of state approved the changes unanimously at a Commonwealth of Nations summit in Australia, Cameron said. The individual governments of those 16 countries still must agree to the changes for them to take effect.

Manners have changed profoundly over the centuries, Cameron said in a televised address, and old-fashioned rules should change with them.

"The idea that a younger son should become monarch instead of an elder daughter simply because he is a man, or that a future monarch can marry someone of any faith except a Catholic -- this way of thinking is at odds with the modern countries that we have become," he said.

"Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen."

Britain is not the first European nation with a hereditary monarchy to take steps towards gender equality in its laws of succession.

Denmark changed its rules to make them gender neutral in 1953, allowing the current monarch, Queen Margrethe, to succeed to the throne.

Sweden followed suit in 1980, three years after the birth of Crown Princess Victoria, the current successor to the throne. Norway also accords equal rights of succession to royals born after 1990.

Queen Elizabeth is in Australia for the three-day Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The Commonwealth is an association of 54 nations with ties to the United Kingdom. Only 16 share the queen as head of state.

I was very excited to hear this news since it showed that women are finally getting the equal right and power to rule the monarchy. Before people would just have the male heir run the royal business, now the women heir can have the chance to take control too! Even though this news was mainly aimed for countries that still have the monarchy system, it can still probably increase the possibility for the United States to elect women for president!

I DON'T Want To Be 31 Years Old!

On October 21, 11, Kim Kardashian turns 31 in New York City as she wraps filming on “Kourtney & Kim Take New York”. After Mrs. Kris Humphries comes back from Dubai, she hit the Angel Ball on Monday, where she dished that turning 31 is "freaky".

"I think 31 is even worse," Kim said. "It's like now I'm really an adult!" And yet she's still partying in Vegas!

Last year, she was a single lady and celebrated with her sisters at Tao nightclub. This time, her birthday party is going to Marquee nightclub inside the Cosmopolitan Resort on Saturday.

But today, Kardashian will be busy filming into the evening and packing to move back to L.A.

"Can't believe we are done with New York! 3 months went by so fast! Boxes everywhere in our hotel! All ready to go home! Kardashian twittered in her blog.

Though I’m happy that she is going have fun celebrating her birthday, this subject actually kind of makes me think about why celebrities worry about aging? Famous people like Kardashian, whose ages are not in their teen or 20’s anymore, would usually be seem as “washout” for their business. Since young audience prefer someone around their age or a little bit older, celebrities would have to look or behave like that age to please the viewers. In Asia, when a super star hits age 30 or older, the fans would probably say “Aw she’s too old now!” or “Ew a old person trying to look young”. Even though some celebrities does get more popular as they ages, I continue to think that it is because they are trying to look young or put on a lot of make-up on to cover their winkles.

Some celebrities just won't change...

On Oct. 14, 2011, Lindsay Lohan got her teeth’s picture taken and they weren’t very lovely. “Lindsay Lohan's need for a better toothpaste should not outshine more important issues such as homelessness, lack of funding for public education and relations between America and its allies," the actress's rep said.

Steve Honig responded to the online buzz about a close up photo of Lohan's teeth "Lindsay is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful women on the planet, and is regularly sought-after by some of the top photographers in the world to appear on covers of magazines around the globe," Honig said in a speech to CNN.

Worst of all, Lohan's stained teeth were not the biggest concern she has to deal with right now. She got due back in court Wednesday morning for a status hearing before Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Saunter. Judge Saunter would check on Lohan’s progress in meeting the community service and psychological counseling requirements she enacted last summer when she sentenced Lohan to probation for stealing a necklace from a Venice, California, jewelry store.

My thought about this news was, “oh great, Lindsay’s gotten herself into another trouble AGAIN!” I mean seriously, child-stars like her who were respected when they were young have become such a mess as celebrities! No wonder people said, “Hollywood kills childhood” I don’t know whether it was the work pressure or personal issues, but these problematic superstars should quit their jobs and do something less stressful.

Overworked or Unresponsible

On October 4th, 2011, Adele Laurie Blue Adkins made her fans at the stateside Adele disappointed when she canceled her concerts by the excuse of “she’s pulled the plug on a collection of U.S. tour dates once again.” An announcement from her label written "Someone Like You" crooner "had forced to cancel her upcoming 10 city sold-out tour of the U.S. due to a outflow into her vocal chord."

This was not the first time Adele had to cancel earlier stops in the States due to laryngitis, but soon after rescheduled them. According to her label, the singer was prepping to start her U.S. run on October 7 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, "when her illness reappeared." Doctors have instructed Adele to take "an extended rest period" so that she can get better.

The artist posted a lengthy post on her blog about her ongoing vocal problems, writing that she wanted to fully explain herself what she has been dealing with. "Guys, I’m heartbroken and worried to tell you that yet again I’m experiencing problems with my voice. Its ridiculous I know! I can’t believe it myself. I follow all the advice I’m given and stick to regimes, rules and practices to the best of my ability but it seems to simply not be enough," she posted on her blog.

She continued her explanations with, "My voice is weak and I need to build it back up.... I will be back and I’m gonna smash the ball out the park once I’m touring again. I apologies from the bottom of my heart, sincerely I do. I know its not only disappointing because of the show, but its plane tickets, hotel bookings, birthdays, anniversaries and time wasted. But please have faith in me that this is the only thing I can do to make sure I can always sing and always make music for you to the best of my ability."

For some reason, I felt like Adele was lying about why she canceled the concert. First of all if she had failed to perform once then she should tried to prevent from happening again. Second of all, if her doctor claimed she was “sick” then she should have not arranged any more concerts that she couldn’t kept her promise of going there. Last but not least, many popular singers have the same excuses as Adele’s so that fans would not dislike them. If celebrities continued to come up with lame excuses or have health issues, they might as well quit and get some job that does not care about public image or are less stressful!
