September 29, 2011, on CNN news, Melissa McCarthy, the Emmy winner for "Mike & Molly" and "Bridesmaids" planned to launch her own plus-size fashion line to getting hockey's prized Stanley Cup. As a mom to her two daughters with her actor-husband Ben Falcone, McCarthy said that "being a mother actually helps her feel less insecure about her looks" McCarthy also complained, "Trying to find stuff that's still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It's either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle," Therefore in conclusion, McCarthy became the co-designing with couturier Daniella Pearl.
I personally understood how much struggles McCarthy must had felt when picking clothes that were bigger sizes than the typical skinny celebrities. Back in my Asia country in Taiwan, majority of the girls there were either underweight or smaller than average so most clothes were designed for those sizes. When I came back to my country after living in America for six years, I realized my body was considered “overweight” and I could not find clothes that fit me beside some T-shirts that made me look even bigger. Worst of all, I was surrounded with skinny people all the time! My classmates, cousins, and any random girls that I saw at the streets all have the lean body type. It droved me into losing weight as much as 66 pounds! Unfortunately, despite the fact that my body size went from wearing extra large to medium size, I was still considered bigger because I have larger shoulder than those common girls.
If there were more designers designing for plus-size people like McCarthy in Asia, then maybe girls like me would not have felt the discouragement that our society pressured us on.
