Equality for Clothing

September 29, 2011, on CNN news, Melissa McCarthy, the Emmy winner for "Mike & Molly" and "Bridesmaids" planned to launch her own plus-size fashion line to getting hockey's prized Stanley Cup. As a mom to her two daughters with her actor-husband Ben Falcone, McCarthy said that "being a mother actually helps her feel less insecure about her looks" McCarthy also complained, "Trying to find stuff that's still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It's either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle," Therefore in conclusion, McCarthy became the co-designing with couturier Daniella Pearl.

I personally understood how much struggles McCarthy must had felt when picking clothes that were bigger sizes than the typical skinny celebrities. Back in my Asia country in Taiwan, majority of the girls there were either underweight or smaller than average so most clothes were designed for those sizes. When I came back to my country after living in America for six years, I realized my body was considered “overweight” and I could not find clothes that fit me beside some T-shirts that made me look even bigger. Worst of all, I was surrounded with skinny people all the time! My classmates, cousins, and any random girls that I saw at the streets all have the lean body type. It droved me into losing weight as much as 66 pounds! Unfortunately, despite the fact that my body size went from wearing extra large to medium size, I was still considered bigger because I have larger shoulder than those common girls.

If there were more designers designing for plus-size people like McCarthy in Asia, then maybe girls like me would not have felt the discouragement that our society pressured us on.

Some women made fools of themselves

From abc News, on Sept 23, 2011, Kim Delaney, the celebrity of “Army Wives” was kicked off stage at the Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center on Thursday night after delivering an unsuitable and incomprehensible speech at the Liberty Medal Award presentation to former defense secretary Robert Gates.

At the beginning, Delaney tripped to the podium and twisted her hands as she was talking about having “served in active military duty family for five years.” “I’ve seen soldiers come home with painful life altering injuries borne of their time and service,” she said in slur. She even lied saying “I’ve attended numerous military funerals, including that of my best friend’s son.”

Later Delaney said, “It’s all make believe. I do that as a job. It’s make believe,” She tried to explain her speech for nearly two minutes, “I have the luxury to do all of this on a television show.”

Delaney, age 49, had issues with constituent abuse. In 2002, she was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving after she refused to take a Breathalyzer test. And she was believed rehab for alcohol addiction twice. Therefore, I supposed, Delaney may had took some drugs before she went on stage, which caused her to make such an unusual speech.

For the Sake of Media

One of the most popular and well-known reality television show hosted by the retired supermodel Tyra Banks called America's Next Top Model has just begin airing their seventeenth season on September 14 and they have changed its name to America's Next Top Model-All Star. All of the contestants were the girls from the last couple of cycles who were considered memorable by their ANTM fans.

As soon the models arrived they immediately have to do a photo shoot in which they have to dress up and post what each of them were famous for. One of the contestants named Shannon Stewart, who was known as the girl who refused to get naked for the public, was being pressure to wear a pair of lace panties. Although photo shoot director Jay Manuel continued to persuade her, Stewart kept on saying, "That's not the way I want to be portrayed.” Strangely, instead of choosing the clothes she was chosen to wear, she decided to wear a bikini that shown even more skin. But at the end nobody could convince Stewart and so she done her photo-shoot in her way.

Though I thought it was quite rude of Stewart not to do what the people said, I had to agree that doing something against your will for the liking of the public was not right. And since Stewart was a very religious woman who believed her body was a sacred place for her husband only, I guess it was natural for her to be that way. But I do felt bad for the designer who made that pair of lace panties; it was as if the model was disgusted at the designer for creating such clothes.

Job or Life?

Some people believe that if they were Hollywood stars then all their problems dealing with money will be solved and they will live happily ever after with their family in paradise. But if those were the case then why would famous celebrities such as Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan still have issues with their lives?

I read a news on Sept 7, 2011, about Kate Gosselin, the American television personality of a reality TV series called "Kate Plus 8", who announced that her show was cancelled for the sake of raising her children like the typical kids and that she will be returning her life as a regular mother. The reporter asked if others were aware of her decision and she responded, "Nobody was. I've never quit a job in my life without having something else lined up. I don't know what's next."With that being said, Gosselin would have to work even harder since she had her divorce with her ex-husband Jon in 2009. Overall, Gosselin believed that things will work out with her children, but until then no one can grantee that their lives will be treated as what they wishes.

Although I have never watch Kate Gosselin's show or heard about this person, I thought it was brave of her to quit her job in order to take care of her kids. Most of the celebrities that I know of became terrible people once or before they have families in their lives. And I always feel that the parents should think more about their children than working their lives off. There was this saying that "One can do very well at the job but does poorly when it comes dealing with family." I guess fame and fortune doesn't bring happiness to everyone...
